Student Assistance Awards Program Rules and Regulations

  1. Eligibility 
THIS IS NOT A CONTEST. Legal residents of Canada, including residents of Quebec, who are 30 years of age and under (as of  December 30, 2023), currently enrolled in full-time studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution (or  will be as of January 15, 2024), and who currently work or have worked in the film industry for a  minimum of one (1) year, within the past six (6) months, or are a child/grandchild of an individual who  currently works or who has worked in the film industry for a minimum of three (3) years, within the past  six (6) months (or has retired from a career in the film industry and was employed for at least five (5)  years prior to retirement) are eligible to apply for the assistance.
  1. How to Apply 
Access the “Canadian Picture Pioneers Student Assistance Awards Program” application by visiting our  web site at CanadianPicturePioneers.ca and completing the student assistance awards application. You will be asked to provide your first and last name, street address, city, province, area code, phone  number, e-mail addresses and all other details as listed on the application and requested in this  document. You will also be asked to answer specific areas of personal information regarding your  financial situation, volunteer service, educational costs and submit a personal essay. Details of your  need for financial assistance MUST be included. Financial information should include description of your  financial need, current year school costs and any accumulated school debts. How you are currently  paying for school costs, including any other education funding, payments, grants, loans, awards,  scholarships and bursaries that you are receiving. If you have participated in any volunteer activities,  complete the section on volunteer service with dates and description of volunteer activities. The main personal essay must be no less than 350 words; all essays less than 350 words will be  automatically disqualified. Information in the different sections and essay must not be repeated. The  main essay should tell the judges about yourself, how the assistance money will benefit you, career  goals and how your education will help you to achieve your goals and hopefully benefit society. Essays will be judged on the following criteria;– Inclusion of all of the information requested– Clarity of thought and communication of content– Essay Structure– Creativity / Originality– Grammar and Spelling On-line entries must be transmitted and received no later than the close of the student assistance award  program for the “Application Period” designated herein. By applying for the assistance award, the  applicant consents to the release of his/her name and image. The applicant declares to have complied  with the rules. All entries become the property of the Canadian Picture Pioneers, and will not be  returned to entrants. Incomplete or illegible entries are void.
  1. Application Period 
Applications will be accepted until 11:59pm EST on September 12, 2023. All applications must be  received by 11:59pm EST, September 12, 2023 to be included in the judging process. The Canadian  Picture Pioneers are not responsible for late, lost, misdirected or incomplete entries. All applications  should be for the 2023 current assistance program period and will not be kept for future awards.
  1. Assistance Awards 
Up to twenty-five (25) $5,000 individual assistance payments will be awarded. Assistance awards will be selected by a panel of judges. The decision of the panel of judges is final. The  judges at their sole discretion can award or disqualify any applicant or change the payment schedule.  Selected student awards are not final until all conditions and requirements are satisfied, some of which  are listed herein and below. Proof of age, residency and current address on Canadian or Provincial government photo ID, Social  Insurance Number, 2022 CRA Notice of Assessment, employment confirmation, digital portrait photo  and proof of enrollment and attendance in full-time studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution  during the Fall 2023 and / or Winter 2024 semesters will be required in order to qualify for an assistance  award. All assistance payment monies are in Canadian dollars. Assistance payments are not transferable, and cannot be extended. Taxes, if applicable, are the sole  responsibility of the winners. Assistance payments must be accepted as awarded.
  1. Selection Process 
On or before November 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) in Toronto, Ontario a panel of judges will  evaluate the applications and essays. The odds of being awarded an assistance payment will depend  upon the total number of eligible applicants and applications received on or before the applicable  closing date. A selected entrant who does not provide the necessary age, post-secondary institution  enrollment, employment documentation and any other requested information within the deadline  provided will be deemed to have forfeited the assistance awards payment. Candidates may be  contacted by email or phone, and may be required to complete and return a release form in order to  redeem their assistance award. By applying for this assistance program the entrants automatically and  without exception agree to accept and abide by the application instructions and all rules and  regulations. Only those selected for award consideration will be contacted.
  1. General Terms and Conditions 
Entrants agree to abide by the terms of these official rules and by the decisions of the judging  organization, which are final on all matters pertaining to the Student Assistance Program Award. At the  sole discretion and option of the judging organization, funds awarded will be paid as directed by the  judges including to the student directly or to the student’s account at the educational institution as  provided by the student with their proof of full-time scholastic enrollment. This assistance award is  governed by the laws of Canada. All federal and local laws and regulations apply. By entering,  participants release and hold harmless the Canadian Picture Pioneers their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability for any  injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Canadian Picture Pioneers  Assistance Program or any awards won. Restrictions, conditions and limitations apply. The Canadian  Picture Pioneers reserve the right not to award any or all of the awards if in its opinion, no deserving  candidates apply. BY APPLYING FOR THIS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AWARDS, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE OFFICIAL  RULES. The Official Rules will be posted on the Canadian Picture Pioneers Student Assistance Awards  Program web site throughout the application period. Entrants further agree to be bound by the  decisions of the judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects.
  1. Limitations of Liability 
The Canadian Picture Pioneers are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether  caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the  application process, or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of  submissions for the assistance awards. The Canadian Picture Pioneers assumes no responsibility for any  error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line  failure, theft or destruction or authorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Canadian Picture  Pioneers are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any communication network  or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of e mail or players on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website  or combination thereof, including injury or damage to participants or to any other person’s computer  related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this award program. If, for any  reason, the Assistance Awards Program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by  computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other  causes beyond the control of the Canadian Picture Pioneers which corrupt or affect the administration,  security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this student assistance award program, the Canadian  Picture Pioneers reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the  Student Assistance Award Program. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE CANADIAN PICTURE PIONEERS BE RESPONSIBLE HEREUNDER FOR ANY  INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL OR INDIRECT DAMAGES EVEN IF CANADIAN PICTURE PIONEERS  HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
