2020 Canadian Picture Pioneers Special Assistance Grants Program Rules and Regulations

THIS IS NOT A CONTEST, FUNDING FOR THIS SPECIAL PROJECT IS LIMITED. GRANTS WILL BE PROVIDED ON A FIRST TO APPLY BASIS. Regardless of any information in this document or any other communications, the Canadian Picture Pioneers reserves the exclusive right to amend and or cease offering this special assistance program at any time and without any prior notice.

There are many of your fellow industry employees from across Canada affected by mandated theatre closings. We request that if your family’s financial situation is stable, please consider those in real need and only apply if you really need the assistance offered by this program.

This one-time special assistance grant valued at $250 provided by the Canadian Picture Pioneers (CPP) fundraising activities and with the support of a major donation from the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO).

1. Eligibility

All program requirements listed below must be met to be eligible for the program assistance.

This assistance program is open to legal residents of Canada, including residents of Quebec, who have currently been laid-off from their employment by an exhibition or distribution industry company located in Canada.

The applicant has been recently laid-off as a resulted of the current 2020 COVID-19 health crisis.

A laid-off employee can only apply one (1) time for the special assistance grant.

The applicant must have been employed for at least five (5) continuous years with the same employer prior to the recent lay-off, without any breaks in employment, excluding allowable vacation periods. Employment will be deemed continuous through company/theatre acquisitions as long as the current employer is able to validate full years of eligible employment.

The applicant works on the average for the employer a significant number of weekly hours making it a major source of the applicant’s income.

The applicant cannot be receiving any payment from their recent employer or any other employer or has not returned to work or started a new job since lay-off. If the applicant’s employment status changes, even after the application has been submitted, the applicant must inform the CPP as soon as possible.

Eligibility determination will be at the sole discretion of the CPP. Employment requirements will be validated with the applicant’s employer.

2. How to Apply

Access the “Canadian Picture Pioneers Special Assistance Grants Program” application by visiting our web site at CanadianPicturePioneers.ca and complete the assistance application form in full. The form cannot be submitted unless all mandatory fields are completed.

By completing the application form and submitting it to the CPP, the applicant agrees to the use and sharing of their personal information by the CPP in any way required by the CPP for the application process. Employment validation will be required as part of the application process, information collected that is required to validate employment will be shared with the applicant’s employer. Applicant information collected as part of the assistance application process is confidential and will not be shared with any third party that is not part of application process.

Applications are automatically dated by the system and that date/time stamp will be used to determine the order in which the applications were received and if required will be used to determine any cut-off of funding.

The CPP web site will be used as the main form of communication for the assistance program information and updates. Only those eligible to receive the special assistance will be contacted.

The applicant declares to have complied with all the rules and regulations. All entries become the property of the Canadian Picture Pioneers, and will not be returned to applicants. Incomplete or illegible entries are void.

3. Assistance Grants

The CPP at their sole discretion can disqualify any applicant or change the assistance grant program. 

All assistance payment amounts are valued in Canadian dollars. Assistance payments are not transferable, and cannot be extended. Taxes, if applicable, are the sole responsibility of the recipient. Assistance payments must be accepted in the form provided.

4. Application Process

Applications received the CPP will be validated to ensure that all required data has been collected. Valid applications will be sent to the applicant’s employer for validation of employment and results of the employer validation will be returned to the CPP. Grant assistance will then be determined by the CPP based on the results of the validation process and the availability of funding.

Applicants may be contacted by email or phone, and may be required to send additional information as required by the CPP. The CPP may also request from the applicant prior to the release of any assistance. By applying for this assistance program, the applicants automatically and without exception agree to accept and abide by the application instructions, all rules and regulations and any other conditions as set by the CPP.

5. General Terms and Conditions

Applicants agree to abide by the terms of these official rules and by the decisions of the CPP, which are final on all matters pertaining to the Special Assistance Program. At the sole discretion and option of the CPP organization, assistance awarded will be granted as directed by the CPP in any form deemed necessary. This assistance award is governed by the laws of Canada. All federal and local laws and regulations apply. By entering, participants release and hold harmless the Canadian Picture Pioneers their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Canadian Picture Pioneers Assistance Program or any awards won. Restrictions, conditions and limitations apply. The Canadian Picture Pioneers reserve the right not to award any or all of the awards if in its opinion, no deserving candidates apply.

BY APPLYING FOR THIS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AWARDS, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE OFFICIAL RULES. The Official Rules will be posted on the Canadian Picture Pioneers Special Assistance Program web site throughout the application period. Applicants further agree to be bound by the decisions of the CPP, which shall be final and binding in all respects.

6. Limitations of Liability

CPP makes no representations or warranties with respect to the effect of its grant on the applicant’s eligibility, entitlement or level of entitlement to receive any other governmental or non-governmental assistance relief programs or subsidy, including Employment Insurance and any assistance programs or subsidies implemented by the federal, provincial or municipal levels of government (each referred to as “Other Assistance”). CPP shall not be liable for any adverse impact its grant may have on an applicant’s Other Assistance and it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to determine if receipt of the CPP grant would adversely affect his or her right or entitlement to Other Assistance.

The Canadian Picture Pioneers are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the application process, or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions for the assistance awards. The Canadian Picture Pioneers assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or authorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Canadian Picture Pioneers are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any communication network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of e-mail or players on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or combination thereof, including injury or damage to participants or to any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this award program. If, for any reason, the Assistance Award Program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Canadian Picture Pioneers which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this assistance program, the Canadian Picture Pioneers reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Special Assistance Grant Program.

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE CANADIAN PICTURE PIONEERS BE RESPONSIBLE HEREUNDER FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL OR INDIRECT DAMAGES EVEN IF CANADIAN PICTURE PIONEERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
